Design Journey

Mon Oct 17 – Web Site Started

Looked for a web site host to create our promotional web site.  Made two attempts at the Free trial version on GoDaddy, then gave up when that failed with two different templates.  Opened an account on BlueHost and browsed their templates.  My HTML skills are a bit rusty, but I could NOT get their WordPress software to recognize my CSS stylesheet and customize the font I wanted.  Went to bed frustrated, hoping I won’t have to hire a web site developer.

Tue Oct 18 – Company Formed

Decided on the name Glasgow Gamesmith for my company, filled out the registration forms online, and submitted to Ohio Secretary of State.  Turns out Glasgow Games was already taken by a game store in Scotland.  I wanted the logo to be “gg”, which can represent several things.  The company initials for one thing, but primarily the shortcut gamers use to congratulate each other on a “good game”.

Thu Oct 20 – Web Site Launch

I chose a new WordPress template I like much better, and massaged the home page.  Created an About Us page with my favorite family photo, set up email from the site to me, created both a Contact Us page and a Newsletter Sign-Up page using built-in email functions. I also moved this blog here from my desktop. Once that all tested out, I launched the site!

I also roughed out some Job cards that stand up by folding some stiff cardstock. Waiting on some art to finish those. I expect that will be replaced with a plastic pieces already molded into an L-shape. They will have to be narrow to lay sideways in the box without raising the box height required.

I’ve got friends coming over tonight for a playtest – can’t wait to get their impressions!
